Christ New in our Soul and Spirit

Morning and Evening Daily Devotional Today is a new day and year. January, 1 (Morning) Devotion “They did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.” Joshua 5:12 Israel’s weary wanderings were all over, and the promised rest was attained. No more moving tents, fiery serpents, fierce Amalekites, and howling wildernesses: they came to the land which flowed with milk and honey, and they ate the old corn of the land. Perhaps this year, beloved Christian reader, this may be thy case or mine. Joyful is the prospect, and if faith be in active exercise, it will yield unalloyed delight. To be with Jesus in the rest which remaineth for the people of God, is a cheering hope indeed, and to expect this glory so soon is a double bliss. Unbelief shudders at the Jordan which still rolls between us and the goodly land, but let us rest assured that we have already experienced more ills than death at its worst can cause us. Let us banish every fearful thought, and rejoice with exceeding great joy, in the prospect that this year we shall begin to be “forever with the Lord.” A part of the host will this year tarry on earth, to do service for their Lord. If this should fall to our lot, there is no reason why the New Year’s text should not still be true. “We who have believed do enter into rest.” The Holy Spirit is the earnest of our inheritance; he gives us “glory begun below.” In heaven they are secure, and so are we preserved in Christ Jesus; there they triumph over their enemies, and we have victories too. Celestial spirits enjoy communion with their Lord, and this is not denied to us; they rest in his love, and we have perfect peace in him: they hymn his praise, and it is our privilege to bless him too. We will this year gather celestial fruits on earthly ground, where faith and hope have made the desert like the garden of the Lord. Man did eat angels’ food of old, and why not now? O for grace to feed on Jesus, and so to eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan this year! Daily Bible – http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=king.james.bible.study

Alive: What makes the Christian faith distinct from any other? Every other founder of the major world religion is dead. But Jesus, our resurrection King, is a alive and well! He rose from the dead after being crucified for our sins, and this is what makes the Christian faith distinct from any other.

“If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is our faith” (1 Corinthians 15:14). But Jesus Christ is risen indeed! Because Hw lives and has given us the Holy Spirit, we can live fully alive-reflecting His goodness and glory. Even now, He is making intercession for us as He reigns at the right hand of God. And He will soon come to crush our enemies – Satan, death, and sin – under His beautiful feet. The Good News of the resurrection of Jesus is the greatest news that humanity has ever received. And this month I have an amazing opportunity to boldly share it with the lost. May this help you joyously tell those in your life the most important fact of ALL HISTORY: JESUS IS ALIVE!

If there ever was a time when the world needed hope, grace, unity, and salvation, it’s now. I believe we are living in the most optimized age in history for the spread of the Gospel. As you’ll see in the following pages, ae have technologies no prior generation could imagine, and we’ve done everything possible to reach everyone possible. There’s no better time than now.

No better means: there’s also no better menas for reaching the world than going forth with tears. The apostle Paul didn’t have the technologies we have, but he did have the tears. He told the Ephesians, “You now, from the first day that I came to Aisa, in the manner I always lived among you, serving the Lord with all humanity, with many tears” (Acts 20:18-19).

The House That Christ Lives in!

Morning and Evening Daily Devotional by C.H. Spurgeon May, 6 (Morning) Devotion “We dwell in him.” 1 John 4:13 Do you want a house for your soul? Do you ask, “What is the purchase?” It is something less than proud human nature will like to give. It is without money and without price. Ah! you would like to pay a respectable rent! You would love to do something to win Christ? Then you cannot have the house, for it is “without price.” Will you take my Master’s house on a lease for all eternity, with nothing to pay for it, nothing but the ground-rent of loving and serving him forever? Will you take Jesus and “dwell in him?” See, this house is furnished with all you want, it is filled with riches more than you will spend as long as you live. Here you can have intimate communion with Christ and feast on his love; here are tables well-stored with food for you to live on forever; in it, when weary, you can find rest with Jesus; and from it you can look out and see heaven itself. Will you have the house? Ah! if you are houseless, you will say, “I should like to have the house; but may I have it?” Yes; there is the key—the key is, “Come to Jesus.” “But,” you say, “I am too shabby for such a house.” Never mind; there are garments inside. If you feel guilty and condemned, come; and though the house is too good for you, Christ will make you good enough for the house by-and-by. He will wash you and cleanse you, and you will yet be able to sing, “We dwell in him.” Believer: thrice happy art thou to have such a dwelling-place! Greatly privileged thou art, for thou hast a “strong habitation” in which thou art ever safe. And “dwelling in him,” thou hast not only a perfect and secure house, but an everlasting one. When this world shall have melted like a dream, our house shall live, and stand more imperishable than marble, more solid than granite, self-existent as God, for it is God himself—“We dwell in him.” Daily Bible – http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=king.james.bible.study

2 Corinthians 10:4,5 > For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasoning and every proud and lofty things that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Wisdom

Morning and Evening Daily Devotional from the Word of God, May, 5 (Evening) Devotion “He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.” Proverbs 16:20 Wisdom is man’s true strength; and, under its guidance, he best accomplishes the ends of his being. Wisely handling the matter of life gives to man the richest enjoyment, and presents the noblest occupation for his powers; hence by it he finds good in the fullest sense. Without wisdom, man is as the wild ass’s colt, running hither and thither, wasting strength which might be profitably employed. Wisdom is the compass by which man is to steer across the trackless waste of life; without it he is a derelict vessel, the sport of winds and waves. A man must be prudent in such a world as this, or he will find no good, but be betrayed into unnumbered ills. The pilgrim will sorely wound his feet among the briers of the wood of life if he does not pick his steps with the utmost caution. He who is in a wilderness infested with robber bands must handle matters wisely if he would journey safely. If, trained by the Great Teacher, we follow where he leads, we shall find good, even while in this dark abode; there are celestial fruits to be gathered this side of Eden’s bowers, and songs of paradise to be sung amid the groves of earth. But where shall this wisdom be found? Many have dreamed of it, but have not possessed it. Where shall we learn it? Let us listen to the voice of the Lord, for he hath declared the secret; he hath revealed to the sons of men wherein true wisdom lieth, and we have it in the text, “Whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.” The true way to handle a matter wisely is to trust in the Lord. This is the sure clue to the most intricate labyrinths of life; follow it and find eternal bliss. He who trusts in the Lord has a diploma for wisdom granted by inspiration: happy is he now, and happier shall he be above. Lord, in this sweet eventide walk with me in the garden, and teach me the wisdom of faith. Daily Bible – http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=king.james.bible.study

The Journey Begins

The Meeting: It was know as Operation Overload. And it would become the largest invasion in the history of the world’s armies. It began on June 6, 1944 – known as D-Day – and ended on August 30 that same year when German armies began their eastward retreat from France, across the River Seine, back toward Germany. Operation Overlord had all the components of a large-scale movement:

The meeting. The operation began with a meeting, the Trident Conference, thirteen months before D-Day in Washington D.C. It was a meeting between the leaders of the United States and the United Kingdom to discuss the involvement of both nations in confronting the fascist designs of Hitler and Mussolini. Operation Overlord – a multi-nation invasion of Western Europe – was a primary topic of discussion.

The Men: While Eisenhower established overall direction, other leaders like British General Bernard Montgomery, undertook heavy responsibility. But the ultimate responsibility for fulfilling the mission fell to the two million plus Allied soldiers who were in France by the end of August in 1944.

The Mission: The mission of Operation Overlord was clear: Defeat the Axis powers, led by Germany’s Adolf Hitler, who were threatening to conquer Europe. Or, said a different way, the mission was to free the inhabitants of Europe from a brutal, racist, totalitarian future.

The Means: When we look at what the Allied forces accomplished, it seems hard to believe given the military and communications technologies available today. The logistics of the D-Day landing on the beaches of Normandy alone were staggering: more than 5,000 naval vessels, 160,000 troops, 1,200 aircraft plus all the support resources needed to keep an invading army fed and field-ready for a indefinite future.

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
